Our Curriculum
In first grade the students will be learning Science , Math, Social Studies, Religion, and how to read & write.
Literacy
By the end of first grade, your child will have learned around 300 sight words. These words are key to becoming a great reader and writer! It is essential that the students work on these words and practice reading daily.
Science

During the school year we will study simple machines, plants, animals, matter, planets, healthy bodies, and our environment.

Writing
The students will be learning to write sentences, paragraphs, and short stories in first grade, including writing and publishing a hardcover book (Student Treasures).
Social Studies
​
In social studies the students will explore maps, caring for our earth, inventors, inventions, cultures, the US, and counties of the world. Some at-home projects are required for this subject.
Mathematics
The students will be studying addition, subtraction, number sense, time, 3D shapes, money, and measurement. From time to time the students may have a worksheet to complete for homework to practice key skills learned in class.
Religion
During the school year, we will learn about the stories of the Bible, prayers, Father Tom, Mass and the Church. Some prayer memorization is required for this subject.
